Feline Feature: The Butter Babies
Buttercup, Butternut, Butterscotch, Butter Biscuit, and Butternut were pulled from Barrow County Animal Control at the end of May 2023. During their preparatory lab work for their spay/neuter surgeries, they all tested positive for FeLV, a cat-specific virus that attacks a cat’s immune system. This means that, even though they are completely symptom-free, they cannot be kept with other cats while in foster care.
Pippi's Place emphasized that there was a good possibility that they did not even have FeLV and merely still had the antibodies in their blood from their mother. It would take three months and another retest to see accurate results.
Due to the positive results, kittens were not signed over to Pippi‘s Place immediately. However, Pippi's Place asked to continue to foster them for the next three months until they can be tested again to eliminate the possibility of false positives.
They Needed URGENT Help
Had Pippi's Place been unable to find foster homes for the kittens by July 14th, they would have no other choice but to return them to Barrow County, where they would, unfortunately, be at high risk for euthanasia because of shelter overcrowding.
With only seven days left to find a foster home for these five possibly FeLV+ kittens, Pippi’s Place was growing desperate to find a solution to keep the kittens out of animal control facilities.
They got their answer this morning when a Pippi's Place veteran foster volunteered to take all five of them in!
